What Does a WOF Inspection Cover?
According to the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA), WOF inspections for general trailers include checks on:
Vehicle Identification: Confirming VIN and chassis numbers.
External Projections & Dimensions: Ensuring the trailer doesn’t have sharp or dangerous edges and meets legal size limits.
Structural Condition: The chassis and body must be structurally sound, without excessive corrosion or damage.
Lighting & Electrical Systems: All required lights (brake, tail, indicators, reflectors) must be present and functional.
Braking Systems: If fitted, the service brake, parking brake, and breakaway system must operate correctly.
Steering & Suspension: Ensures proper alignment, functioning suspension, and no excessive wear.
Tyres & Wheels: Must have sufficient tread depth, no cracks or bulges, and be suitable for road use.
Towing Connection: The drawbar, safety chains, and coupling devices must be secure and in good working order.
